It has been belatedly known that JYJ is involved in a lawsuit for damages. JYJ sued a publishing company for using their photos without permission, violating their portrait rights.

According to the courts, JYJ’s Park Yoochun, Kim Junsu and Kim Jaejoong filed a lawsuit against a certain publishing company for using their photo without permission and asked for about $40,000 in damages.

The publishing company used JYJ’s photo for the cover of an entertainment magazine, which was what led to the lawsuit. At first, C-JeS Entertainment filed a request for the magazine sales to be stopped but action was not taken. Therefore, C-JeS filed a damages lawsuit for portrait rights violations, which got the case going.

Portrait rights violation lawsuits filed by celebrities are increasing these days. Recently, 60 celebrities including Suzy, Kim Soo Hyun and Bae Yong Jun sued a certain “celebrity look-alike” app for violating those rights.

Baek Ji Young and Nam Gyu Ri also sued a plastic surgery clinic for using their photos without permission. FT Island also sued a certain cosmetics company for using their photos even after their contract was ended.

Another case involves Jang Dong Gun, Girls’ Generation and 59 other celebrities who filed a lawsuit against portal sites such as Daum Communication for $590,000 in damages.

A C -JeS rep spoke with Star News and said, “The publishing company for this case is said to be bankrupt right now so they have asked for an amicable solution. But if the same thing happens again, we will take strong legal action against them.”
