BTOB’s Minhyuk and 4minute’s Kwon So Hyun Nab Gold Medals + Other Results from Idol Star Athletic Championships Part 1Day 1 of the Lunar New Year special broadcast of the 8th “Idol Star Athletic Championships” has ended, resulting in some heart-pounding actions, unbelievable twists and all-time high records for the track, archery, futsal and curling events!
On January 30, part 1 of the “Idol Star Athletic Championships” (henceforth, ISAC) was broadcast on MBC.
The first event was the female individual match for archery. Just as expected, 4minute‘s Kwon So Hyun and SISTAR‘s Bora went head-to-head for the final round. The competition was so fierce as both idols hardly made any mistakes, scoring 9s and 10s for each round. In the end, Kwon So Hyun won the gold medal with just a point difference with Bora. Rainbow‘s Jaekyung and After School‘s Lizzy also showed fierce competition for the bronze medal, which Jaekyung won in the end.
This year was the first time for a female individual match, as in the past, there were only team events. Eyes were also drawn to the fact that the archers put on camera lenses, which is only something that can be seen at the actual Olympics.
The next event was the highly anticipated men’s futsal semi-final match. The first match was between BEAST‘s Yoo Doo Joon‘s Team B and ZE:A‘s Kim Dong Joon‘s Team C.
Team B was ahead 3:0 due to Roh Ji Hoon‘s exceptional goal-tending skills. However, Team C’s Kim Dong Joon and Boys Republic‘s Won Joon scored two goals in the second half, making the score 3:2. With just 5 seconds left of the game, Team C had a free kick opportunity to tie the game but was not able to make the goal. This allowed Team B to move up to the final round.
Meanwhile, the match between Team A and Team D was also a fierce battle. Team A’s Luhan (EXO) and Minho (SHINee) surprised everyone by scoring a goal each. However, past soccer player Goo Ja Myung tied it up by scoring, making it 2:2 by the second half. Then, Team D’s Im Seulong (2AM) scored, making it 3:2. But not too long after, Team A’s Minho scored yet again, making it 3:3.
However, Goo Ja Myung’s strong freekick earned Team D another point and towards the end, B1A4‘s Baro scored another point for Team D, making the final score 5:3.
The next event recorded an all-time high in the history of the ISAC; the men’s high jump. History‘s Kim Si Hyung, BIGSTAR‘s Sung Hak, 100%‘s Sang Hoon and BTOB‘s Minhyuk all jumped over the 175cm mark with ease.
In the end, Minhyuk successfully jumped over the 185cm mark, recording an all-time high and winning the gold medal.
